Planned Giving - Wilson Society

The Wilson Society was established in 2004 to honor those who have include Wilson Memorial Hospital in their estate plans. The first member of the Wilson Society inducted was Harriet Scobey Stephenson who bequeathed $10,000 to the Shelby County Memorial Hospital Association in 1918.

Donors who make a gift to Wilson through their estate planning are recognized as members of The Wilson Society. Their names are engraved on a special wall plaque located in the connecting corridor between the Outpatient Care Center and the Main Hospital.

New Wilson Society members are also inducted and honored annually at the Friends of Wilson reception each spring.

Endowments Urgently Needed There is a growing need of additional endowment for all hospitals. A recent study of benevolent contributions throughout the United States discloses the fact that only seventy-four out of every thousand such contributions are made to hospitals. This is regrettable and it clearly demonstrates the needs of our thousands of institutions have not been sufficiently impressed on the minds of the people who are capable of helping them. Only in recent years has the public begun to ask itself why a part of the great stream of money that philanthropists pour into college endowment funds should not be diverted to hospitals. After all, what do education and money mean with health?
