Words of Wisdom

(Excerpt from Spring 2007 Foundation Focus Newletter)

The Internet is a never-ending source of information and some of it more welcome than others. Recently this came to the Foundation and it seems appropriate to share with all of you.

Count the ways you are blessed. Be thankful. Be slow to quarrel. Search out a forgotten friend. Suspend suspicion, be trusting. Write a love letter. Share a treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Show your loyalty in word and deed. Nourish a grateful attitude. Keep a promise. Find the time. Don't harbor a grudge. Listen. Apologize if you are wrong. Be understanding. Be slow to envy. Forgive. Think first of someone else. Be kind. Count on miracles. Laugh more. Be gentle. Wage war against prejudice. Worship your God. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your gratitude. Speak it again. Speak it still again. Speak it still once more.

The Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation and its staff would like take the advice offered in the last four sentences above and again extend sincere thanks to each and every one of you for all that you have done and will continue to do to help support Wilson.

When you hear this, I am certain that you think first of the financial aspect. While monetary gifts are critical to maintaining our Hospital, there are many other gifts are important as well. A few examples are:

  • The Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary  25,011 volunteer hours in 2006  the equivalent of 12.2 full time employees.
  • Hospice Volunteers  2,668 volunteer hours in 2006. It takes a special person to be a Hospice volunteer their help is invaluable.
  • Board Membership  34 of your friends and neighbors serve on the Hospital and Foundation Boards of Trustees. In addition to participating in regularly scheduled board meetings many members serve on a variety of committees.
  • 724 employees  remember the Valentine's Day Blizzard? A hospital is a 24/7 operation. To be sure that our patients had the care they needed, many of Wilson's dedicated staff members braved the storm to get to work and, once there, worked extended shifts and slept on cots set up in conference rooms.
  • 181 physicians these men and women do everything humanly possible with the skills, medications and technology available to heal their patients.

Sometimes there just aren't words to express our appreciation&this is one of those times so a heartfelt Thank You! will have to suffice.
