Her Legacy Lives On
Bonnie Z. Swonger was a former Wilson Hospital licensed practical nurse and a long time Sidney resident. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework spending much of her time making afghans and donating them to non-profit organization for fund-raising projects.
Her husband, William's health began to fail from Parkinson's disease she watched nurses care for him and appreciated their concern and compassion.
She died on September 11, 1997 at the age of 101, but her legacy lives on through her bequest to the Wilson Home Health & Hospice endowment fund. The income from the endowment will be has been used to purchase necessary medications for hospice patients.
In addition, her estate provided The Community Foundation of Shelby County with funds to award $1,000 scholarships annually to Shelby County residents wishing to pursue a nursing career.
